Two fragments from the lower part of a white marble base with moulded panels on four sides. a: right side fragment (0.28 × 0.58 × 0.25) with moulding to right. b: lower left corner fragment, with moulding to left and below (0.25 × 0.34 × 0.34).

Apparatus

The letters highlighted were recorded by previous visitors, but not by the NYU expedition.

Ramsay was the only person to read lines 1-4, and read more than MAMA in lines 5-11.

The numbers in l.17 were first read by the NYU group.

Translation

The Council and the People honoured Dionysios son of [ . . ? . . ], grandson of Ta[ . . ? . . ], great-grandson of Demetrios, great-great-grandson of Pe [ . . ? . . ], descendant of well-born men, who died before his time, being incomparable in the art of modelling. [ . . ? . . ] dedicated to the most powerful Council for perpetual distribitions? ?110 silver denarii and arranged for the preparation and erection of the statue at his own expense.
