Four joining fragments from a large marble block: a. without edges (0.57 × 0.85 × 0.23); b. right edge fragment, with lower edge surviving (0.32 × 1.10 × 0.67); c. small triangular fragment, (circa 0.145 × 0.18); d. left edge fragment (0.20 × 0.45 × 0.14).

Edition τὴν ἐπικειμένην σορὸν οὔτε διὰ παραχωρήσεωςοὔτε διὰ συνχωρήσεως οὔτε ἄλλῳ τινι τρόπῳ μόνοι δὲ ἐνκηδευθήσονται ἐν τῇ σορῷ Πόπλιος Αἴλιος Κλαύδιος Σμάραγδος Ἰουλιανὸς καὶ Πόπλιος Αἴλιος Ἄτταλος ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ ἐὰν δέ τις τολμήσειἐνκηδεύσαι τινα ἕτε[ρο]ν ἔσταιἀσεβὴς καὶ ἐπάρατος καὶ ἀποτεισει προστείμου εἰς τὸ ἱερώτατονταμεῖον ἀργυρίου δηνάρια μύρια καὶ χίλια πεντακόσια ὡρισμένα ὑπὸ τοῦ Σμαράγδου καὶ εκ
Apparatus

l. 1, this line must describe the objects which are not to be disposed of, i.e. the tomb and all its appertinances including probably τὴν ἐπικειμένην σορὸν. Final letters, only the uprights visible.

l. 6, the final Σ is uncertainly read.

Translation

[...] no-one is to dispose of the tomb and its burial places and the sarcophagus lying (on it), either by surrendering it or by legal conveyance or in any other way; but in the sarcophagus there shall be placed only Publius Aelius Claudius Smaragdos Julianos and Publius Aelius Attalos his father, and if anyone should dare to bury anyone else in it, he will be (treated as) sacrilegious and accursed and will pay a penalty to the most sacred treasury of 15,000 silver denarii, as laid down by Smaragdos and [...]
