A bluish marble columnar statue base shaft, broken below (height 1.45. diam. 0.55).

Translation

The Council, in exchange for many benefits, set up this statue of Menandros, who was affable to all, and who, making a welcome repayment for his rearing to the great city, moderated her tribute, and established light for all.

Excavated by the French expedition in 1905, and copied by A. Boulanger in 1913 (notebook A, 49 no. 1, whence B, 10-11, no. 9); copied by J. and L. Robert in 1946; recorded by the NYU expedition.
