Peek conjectured <foreign lang="grc">ὤπασ' ἐπεῖναι</foreign>; Merkelbach suggested that <foreign lang="grc">πείνᾳ</foreign> stood for <foreign lang="grc">ποινᾷ</foreign>; we see a faint upright as the last letter in the line.</p>

        <head>Translation</head>
		<p>Who is this? From where? <supplied reason="subaudible">I am</supplied> Tatianos from Lycia, who held the highest officies, and by just laws saved cities. But all-conquering time would have destroyed me if my child, of the third generation, who has the same name and similar achievements, had not lifted me up from the ground and set me on a monument, to be seen and admired by all, local inhabitants and strangers alike. <supplied reason="subaudible">It is</supplied> he who drove deadly ruin from the land of the Carians, and gave justice to dwell among men, when he had been sent from the emperor as a defender for the people, who still rejoice.</p>

        <p>For the man honoured, Flavius Eutolmius Tatianos see <bibl><title level="m">PLRE</title> I Tatianus 5</bibl>, and the dedications for which he was responsible, <xref type="inscription" n="25" href="050217">5.217</xref>, <xref type="inscription" n="26" href="040010">4.10</xref> and <xref type="inscription" n="27" href="040011">4.11</xref>; the statue is put up by his descendant, another Tatianos, governor of Caria.
