A <rs type="material" key="marmor">white marble</rs> columnar <rs type="objectType">statue base</rs> shaft with moulding at top and bottom (<measure dim="height" type="length" unit="metre" precision="circa">1.12</measure>, diam. <measure dim="width" type="length" unit="metre" precision="circa">0.48</measure>); there is a channel (<measure dim="width" type="length" unit="metre">0.095</measure>) down one side from just below the upper moulding to the bottom, and a clamp hole cut in the lower moulding approximately opposite it.</p>

<p>The People honoured Atimetos Petingas son of Charidemos, who became our citizen as well, and lived in good order.</p>

<head>Commentary</head>
<p>The differences in spelling are interesting. It is just possible that ii, with its clear mistake in l. 6, as well as other variants, was meant to be hidden. </p><p>No explanation for Petingas has ever been proposed, but it is probably an ethnic from a very small town. If so, Atimetos will have had a second citizenship at Aphrodisias.</p>
