Description of Monument

Large white marble block 0.96 × 0.55 × 0.40, chipped along all edges, the surface polished over approximately two thirds of its area, but roughened at the right side.

The inscription begins close to the upper edge, and perhaps commenced on an upper block.

Letters

irregular in size and alignment; broad, shallow trenches; non-standard forms; ave. 0.07.

First to fourth centuries A.D. (lettering).

Apparatus

Line 1: There are traces of a letter to the left of mu, perhaps, but not certainly, an alpha.

Lines2, and 4-6 are in different hands, and much smaller than what precedes.

Translation

?Men[odotos, or son of Menodotos] Diogenes son of Diogenes [ . . .

Commentary

This may be from a list of names (its purpose unknown, but perhaps related to membership in a trade guild, since that could explain the rough execution); but the smaller lettering to the right and below suggests rather a series of graffiti.
