Description of Monument

Large white marble crowning block moulded on three sides 1.59 × 0.29 × 1.06.

Description of Text

Inscribed on the front moulding; the text must have continued on the face of the monument which this feature crowned.

Date

Second to third centuries A.D. (lettering).

Edition ἡ σορὸς καὶ αἱ ὑποκείμεναι ἰσῶσται τέσσαρες κατεσκευασμέναι εἰσὶν ὑπὸ Αὐρηλί-
Apparatus

l.2: Αὐρηλ [ίου or -ίας. or possibly ίων.

Translation

The sarcophagus and the four burial niches lying belowwereprepared by Aurel[ius or Aureiai or just possibly the Aurelii . . . ]

Commentary

The tomb appears to have comprised a sarcophagus standing on a structure which contained four subsidiary burial-places.
